Open since 1982

In 1966, amidst the euphoria of England’s World Cup victory, another milestone was quietly marked – the inception of Papas Fish and Chips.

Sitting on his small fishing boat anchored just off the South East coast of Cyprus, Papa Adamos, a priest from a small local village, indulged in his great passion for catching fish for the family table. His sons who farmed the family lands produced the finest potatoes. Blending these two ingredients, the Papas brothers had fish and chips in their blood.

It was only natural that upon their arrival in the UK, they were drawn to their local fish and chips shop to enjoy the delights of the nation’s beloved culinary tradition, which in turn, led to them opening their first fish and chips restaurant in 1966.

From humble beginnings, the company has grown from strength to strength to become one of the leading independent chains of British takeaway fish and chips restaurants with branches throughout the UK, including this popular establishment in Folkestone, which opened in 1982.
